 Ridsdale is back in football |
Former Leeds United chairman Peter Ridsdale has formally completed his takeover at Division Two Barnsley. The deal was finally signed at 0527 BST on 25 October after protracted negotiations between Ridsdale and previous owner Peter Doyle.
Ridsdale takes over immediately as chairman of the Division Two side and said: "I am delighted that we have reached an agreement to save our club.
"I would like to pay tribute in particular to Patrick Cryne, who has been instrumental in ensuring this club has been saved.
"His investment and support have been fundamental to this successful outcome."
Cryne is a lifelong Tykes fan, chief executive of the club's former sponsors iSoft and has invested financially in the takeover.
Ridsdale has acquired both Barnsley Football Club and Barnsley Holdings, the company which owns Oakwell, the Academy facilities and the surrounding land in a deal with previous owner Doyle.
Prior to Ridsdale, American-based businessman Sean Lewis had tried to takeover the club.
Lewis, however, was unable to ratify his takeover with the Football League, so Barnsley remained in administration and Ridsdale, who had previously shown an interest in the Tykes last season, stepped in.
Ridsdale is due to have talks with Ronnie Glavin after the former Tykes player was relieved of his duties as first-team coach.
And in a further backroom re-shuffle, physio David Moore has been replaced by Robert Magnuson.
