Peter Ridsdale's name has been linked with Barnsley over the past week but he has now confirmed an interest in taking over.

He said he has already been to Oakwell for talks with club officials.

It is the first time Ridsdale has spoken about a possible deal and says he is exploring the legalities of taking over.

And he has confirmed that a deal would be likely if the process of him taking over can be simple and straightforward.

Ridsdale says he is very keen to get back into football and the current Barnsley owner Peter Doyle has made no secret of the fact that he would like to sell the club.

"Peter was here a couple of hours going all the way round the ground, and he was very very impressed," Doyle told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I said to him if he's willing to invest I'd welcome him with open arms.

"All I want is for this club to succeed. Mr Ridsdale is a giant in this game."

Ridsdale is keen to get back into football following his departure from Elland Road.
