Barnet celebrate their centenary at Underhill last year |
Barnet have sent a planning application to their local council for a 7m redevelopment of Underhill to bring it up to Football League requirements. The scheme would see new stands build at either end of the ground and the buying of houses in an adjoining road.
The Bees, who have been fruitlessly searching for a new ground, need 2,000 covered seats by the end of the season.
Chairman Tony Kleanthous said: "If this application is successful we will no longer be under threat of expulsion."
He added on his club's website: "We remain committed to finding a site where we can build a modern new stadium befitting the 21st century."
The improvements to the ground would cost 3m while another 4m would be spent on purchasing the neighbouring properties. The residents have been offered the full value of their houses, along with some legal and moving expenses.
The plan would improve various facilities at the ground, enable four new floodlight pylons to be built in the corners and includes accommodation for disabled supporters.
