Aston Villa wait on Emile Heskey scan

Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey will undergo a scan on Monday to assess the groin injury he suffered during the 1-0 win against Stoke on Saturday.

The 31-year-old, who was forced off in the first half, will hope the problem does not rule him out of upcoming games with Arsenal and Liverpool.

Boss Martin O'Neill said: "Emile's groin is the problem although he was feeling a bit better after the game.

"We are hoping for the best but I won't know until after the scan."

Heskey has made a slow start to his Villa career after a series of niggling injuries following his £3.5m switch from Wigan during the January transfer window.

But he has shown his quality in recent games, scoring three goals in the previous six matches before Stoke.

O'Neill will hope the England forward is fit for the two games in 48 hours that will have a big impact on whether Villa can sustain their push for a Champions League spot.

They will take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 27 December before playing host to Liverpool two days later.
