Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey believes the team have the ability to secure a Champions League berth.
Heskey marked his debut with the only goal in Villa's 1-0 win at Portsmouth, a result that took his side up to third place in the Premier League.
He told BBC WM: "It's going to be a difficult proposition but breaking into the top four is what every team wants to do - and hopefully we can do that.
"We're not far off, we've got some very good players here."
He continued: "We have got some good young players as well.
"They are going to really step into the limelight and with the results you are going to grow in stature as well."
The England striker, 31, needed only 21 minutes in a Villa shirt to open his account for the club, his low, right-footed drive enough to earn the club a sixth successive away win in the top flight.
Heskey's home debut for Villa will result in him lining up against his former club Wigan on Saturday.
