Delfouneso's first Aston Villa goal was truly one to remember
Aston Villa's teenage striker Nathan Delfouneso says his first goal for the club will inspire him to push for regular first team involvement.
Delfouneso, 17, scored on his full debut in Villa's Uefa Cup defeat to Zilina and is keen for another chance.
"The goal gave me an extra buzz. It's my aim to at least get on the bench and get some appearances in the Premier League," he told BBC WM.
"Hopefully I can keep myself going with team and get more goals."
Delfouneso was an unused substitute a couple of times for Villa last season but made his debut in the Uefa Cup qualifying tie against HR Hafnarfjordur in August.
Despite his lack of experience, Delfouneso says he was not too apprehensive when he found out he was starting against the Slovakians on Thursday night.
"I wasn't too nervous to be honest," he said. "I was feeling confident in myself that I could do the business."
Delfouneso added that he will remember his goal - a left-foot volley from 20 yards - for a long time.
"I couldn't believe it. I saw the ball up with Marlon Harewood and I watched the flight of the ball and I just gave it a go with my left foot and it flew in.
"I wanted to get the ball back and get another goal."
Delfouneso's efforts have drawn praise from Villa boss Martin O'Neill who is delighted for his young striker.
"I thought he played exceptionally well for someone of his age," he told BBC WM. "I didn't think he'd be overawed but I wouldn't get carried away.
"He's got a really good future ahead of him but he'll keep his feet on the ground."
