Bouma agrees two-year Villa deal

Wilfred Bouma
Bouma is in his fourth season with Villa

Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma has signed a new two-year contract.

The 30-year-old Dutchman, currently recovering from an ankle injury, also has the option of a third year.

Bouma joined Villa from PSV Eindhoven in August 2005, the club where he began his career, but struggled with injuries during his first season in England.

But under Martin O'Neill he has become Villa's first choice left-back and scored his first goal in a 4-1 win over Newcastle back in February.

Bouma's current spell on the sidelines is due to a dislocated ankle which he sustained in Villa's Intertoto Cup clash against Odense.

Following the injury, O'Neill signed Nicky Shorey from Reading for an undisclosed fee.

But Bouma's performances over the last two seasons have persuaded O'Neill to reward him with a new contract.
