Carew scored against Odense as Villa progressed in the InterToto Cup

John Carew has extended his Aston Villa contract by a year.

The 28-year-old striker, who joined Villa last January in a swap deal that saw Milan Baros go to Lyon, is now under contract until 2011.

Carew has been a huge success at Villa Park, partnering Gabriel Agbonlahor in attack and scoring 16 times in 43 Premier League matches.

The Norwegian international is set to start Thursday's Uefa Cup qualifier against FH Hafnarfjordur in Iceland.
