Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies is determined to prove he can return to action quicker than anticipated.

Davies ruptured his Achilles tendon against Arsenal in March and was expected to be out until November.

But the 23-year-old told Villa's website: "You have to get your head down and work. I'm determined to get back for September.

"I've got to make sure I do everything right. If that means a lot of hard work this summer, that's fine with me."

Davies is working hard at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training complex and is happy with how his rehabilitation is progressing.

He said: "I've just got a two-week break and a lot of the lads have two month. But I don't mind. The main thing is for me to get fit and I want to get fit as quickly as possible."
