O'Neill knows his needs to strengthen in the summer |
Martin O'Neill admits his Aston Villa squad has a lack of depth and knows he needs to address it urgently. O'Neill made only one signing in the January transfer window, bringing in Wayne Routledge, as well as selling Gary Cahill to Bolton for 5m.
After watching his side lose at Fulham O'Neill told BBC WM: "We lost Gabby Agbonlahor at half time but we should be able to cope with these things.
"We might not be strong enough to do it and it's something we have to address."
Agbonlahor came off at Craven Cottage with a hamstring strain. But, although he has been pulled out of the England squad and misses the chance to make his debut in Fabio Capello's first game against Switzerland on Wednesday night, O'Neill is confident he will recover in time to face Newcastle at the weekend.
O'Neill is also crossing his fingers over Curtis Davies who had to be substituted at Fulham. And the Villa boss also knows both Agbonlahor and Wilfred Bouma are just one booking away from a suspension.
