Harewood has struggled to make an impact since his move from West Ham. |
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says Marlon Harewood will have to be patient for his chance in the team, despite his spectacular impact at Liverpool. Harewood scored with an overhead kick in Villa's 2-2 draw at Anfield, only his third goal since his 4M move from West Ham in the summer.
But O'Neill is not promising an instant promotion: "He has to get past Gabby Agbonlahor, who's been brilliant.
"And John Carew too. He's the perfect foil for Gabby," he told BBC Radio WM.
Harewood has struggled since arriving from Upton Park and has been a peripheral figure at Villa Park.
The striker is yet to start a Premier League game and has failed to recapture the form that saw him score 16 goals for the Hammers in 2005/06.
