Alves agent plays down Villa talk
Porto defender Bruno Alves
Alves has three years left on his contract at Porto
Bruno Alves' agent has played down talk of the defender joining Aston Villa by revealing he is set to stay at Porto.

Alves, 25, has been tracked by Villa boss Martin O'Neill but has expressed a desire to play Champions League football, which Villa cannot offer.

His agent Christophe Mongai said: "He has three years left on his contract, I think he will be staying at Porto.

"Villa have been watching Bruno but they haven't spoken to me nor, as far as I know, to the club."

Alves recently made his international debut for Portugal in a friendly against Kuwait earlier this month.

O'Neill's central defensive options include Olof Mellberg, Gary Cahill, Martin Laursen and Liam Ridgewell.

Denmark international Laursen has been dogged by injuries for the past three seasons and Ridgewell, out of favour in the second half of last season, is attracting the interest of local rivals Birmingham.
