| Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says the Carling Cup offers his side a gateway into European football. O'Neill wants to maintain Villa's good form and he fielded a strong side for Wednesday's 2-1 win over Scunthorpe. "It is important for us to go as strong as we can just to keep confidence going," he told the club's website. "It is a gateway into Europe. That's a million miles away at this minute as we are only in the third round, but you might as well go for it."
