 Barry is Aston Villa's vice-captain |
Aston Villa have turned down a 4.5m bid from Portsmouth for midfielder Gareth Barry. The 25-year-old's future has been put in doubt following the departure of manager David O'Leary.
Boss Harry Redknapp told The News: "Gareth is a talented player and we placed a bid with Aston Villa.
"They turned it down because he is someone they want to keep. I don't know if the situation will be different now David O'Leary has left."
Barry joined Aston Villa in 1997 and has made over 300 appearances for the Villans.
He has also worn the captain's armband for Villa and represented England eight times.
