Laursen is to see a surgeon in America about the problem |
Aston Villa's Danish defender Martin Laursen says he is sure he will overcome his knee injury to play again but he is not setting a comeback date. The 28-year-old barely featured last season and is going to America on 12 September to see a specialist to find out if surgery will be needed.
"I am determined to prove I am a good player. But I am not putting any timescale on when I return," he said.
"It all depends what the surgeon says. I want to show what I'm capable of."
Villa recently bolstered their defence with the signing of Wilfred Bouma from PSV Eindhoven, and manager David O'Leary has stressed that despite being a major frustration, Laursen's injury is not career-threatening.
Laursen, who joined from AC Milan last summer, said: "The injury has been particularly annoying because I believe I can be a big success in England.
"The way I play is suited to English football, being good in the air and physically strong."
