Aston Villa's Martin Laursen has promised to repay the faith shown in him by boss David O'Leary and the fans during his seven month injury lay-off. The Danish international made a scoring comeback in Villa's 2-0 win against Middlesbrough at the weekend.
"Saturday was a very special day for me. It was a long time since my last match," said Laursen.
"I want to give something back to the club, the manager, the players and the fans who have always been behind me."
Laursen, who signed last summer from AC Milan for 3m, formed a solid defensive partnership with Villa skipper Olof Mellberg before damaging his knee ligaments in August.
"I came to England with a lot of expectations and to get injured so soon after coming to Villa was really frustrating," added the Dane.
"It is always difficult to be injured for so long but especially so in those circumstances when there are expectations from both sides.
"But, thankfully, that is all in the past now. I feel good now and it was so pleasing to come through the 90 minutes against Middlesbrough with no ill-effects."
