Aston Villa chairman Doug Ellis hopes to be back in his post within two weeks following triple heart bypass surgery. The 81-year-old had the operation in early June but is now fit to return.
"I am feeling much better now and I am looking forward to getting back. My voice is a little weak but apart from that everything is fine," said Ellis.
Operations director Steve Stride has been at the helm in the summer, with chief executive Bruce Langham having resigned shortly before Ellis' surgery.
Ellis has been Villa's controlling shareholder since 1982.
He first took charge at Villa Park 36 years ago and in two spells as chairman has worked with 13 managers.
