Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned his team that unless they become more ruthless in front of goal, they will not win trophies.
"We have to be more clinical to win championships," said Wenger after his side's 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge. "We can't lose a game like that.
"Their strikers were more clinical than ours and that made the difference.
"We had the chances but we need to score. I feel sorry for my team because they had an outstanding attitude."
Arsenal, who were missing key striker Robin van Persie, dominated for long periods before a 40th-minute goal by Didier Drogba - his 13th in 11 starts against the Gunners - and Alex's thunderbolt free-kick condemned them to their second successive defeat.
Wenger's side, who have not won a trophy since their FA Cup final win in 2005, have now taken only one point from their last nine.
"I feel sorry they were not rewarded but when you don't take your chances you don't win big games," added Wenger.
"We dominated the game, surprisingly easily, but we go home with zero points. The players on the pitch had enough quality to win this game."
The win moved Chelsea four points clear of second-placed Manchester City and seven ahead of Arsenal in fourth, but Wenger insisted his team's defeat at Stamford Bridge had not scuppered the Gunners' title chances.
"But we have to transform that into points," he insisted.
"It was not a decisive game in terms of the title as Chelsea can drop points as well.
"It was a great team performance with great energy and I give a lot of credit to my team."
