Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs suffers only minor foot injury
Gibbs was replaced during extra time at White Hart Lane
Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs should only be missing for the "short term" after injuring his foot in Tuesday's Carling Cup victory over Tottenham.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had feared Gibbs, 20, had suffered his second broken metatarsal bone in a year.
But scans have revealed the left-back has not suffered a fracture.
"Kieran has suffered severe bruising to his left foot and will hopefully only be missing from first-team action for the short term," a club statement read.
With Gibbs missing a large part of the 2009-10 season with an injury to the same foot and with it the chance to feature at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, Wenger was left fearing the worst.
Following their 4-1 extra-time win against Spurs, the French boss stated: "It is a metatarsal again, it is the one next to the one he had broken, the second one, so we hope we have good news on Wednesday, because that would be a massive blow to us."
Arsenal are already having to deal without the services of skipper Cesc Fabregas, England winger Theo Walcott, Dutch forward Robin van Persie, Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner and midfielder Abou Diaby.
There was other good news with centre-half Thomas Vermaelen having recovered from an Achilles injury and will be available for the visit by West Brom on Saturday.
