Brady supports foreign influx

Arsenal legend Liam Brady has defended the Gunners' policy of bringing in overseas stars ahead of local youngsters.

Brady is now head of youth development at Highbury and worked alongside Don Howe in helping the club to win last season's FA Youth Cup.

But he sees nothing wrong in the continued influx of foreign talent to north London, while home-grown players are allowed to leave.

Arsene Wenger has spent close to �20m this summer.

New faces at the start of the season will include French winger Robert Pires, Cameroon international Lauren and Brazilian midfielder Edu, although his move is under threat due to passport problems.

has been off-loaded to Coventry whilst Tommy Black and Julian Gray have moved across London to Crystal Palace.

Brady said: "You can't blame Arsene Wenger or any manager for bringing foreign players in - they've proved they are better quality.

"That's the challenge for people like myself working in youth development in England - to improve our players.

"We've let our standards drop badly. There aren't so many kids playing football, they've got lots of other things to do.

"We have to try and get the passion back for the game among the kids and when we get the really good players we've got to develop them properly."
