Gallas was replaced by Cesc Fabregas as Arsenal skipper

William Gallas will stay at Arsenal despite being replaced as captain, according to his agent.

Gallas, 31, lost the captaincy for publicly criticising his team-mates.

But agent Etienne Mendy told French paper Aujourd'hui Sport: "William doesn't express himself and the English media take advantage of that.

"They haven't missed a chance to do that ever since his bad-mood gesture at Birmingham, and they envisage him leaving Arsenal. That is wrong."

Mendy added: "He has taken the criticism and has already moved on. Anyway, William is never better than when he has his back to the wall."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger installed Cesc Fabregas as captain for Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City with Gallas left behind in London to train on his own.

Gallas' captaincy had been under scrutiny since Arsenal's match against Birmingham last season where the Frenchman kicked an advertising hoarding and stood in the other half of the pitch as James McFadden scored a last-minute penalty.

And in last week's outburst he accused some team-mates of in-fighting, insulting behaviour and lacking bravery.

Gallas was recalled by Wenger to the Arsenal first team for Tuesday's Champions League encounter against Dynamo Kiev.
