Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos has joined AC Milan on a season-long loan deal after successfully passing a medical at the Italian giants.
The 23-year-old arrived in the Italian city on Tuesday to finalise a deal, the details of which remain undisclosed.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he has sufficient options in defence to cover the Switzerland international's move.
"He does not get the games here, and so now he can play somewhere and remain in a top-level club," said Wenger.
Senderos joined Arsenal from Servette for a reported 2.5m in 2003.
He helped the Gunners win the 2005 FA Cup but injury forced him to sit out the 2006 Champions League final.
We want him to play without losing him (but) it has not been decided yet whether the transfer will be permanent
Arsene Wenger
He will not be available for Milan's Serie A opener at home to to Bologna on Sunday due to a slight injury, but chief executive Adriano Galliani believes his signing, coupled with the club's other summer recruits, gives Milan a squad capable of winning the title.
"He has a little problem with his back but he has told me he will be ready in around 10 days," said Galliani.
"I believe Ancelotti has to be happy with our recruits. It is a squad for the scudetto."
Wenger said that the recent acquisition of former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre meant Senderos's chances of first-team football had become limited.
"We have (Johan) Djourou, we have Kolo (Toure), we have Senderos, we have (Alex) Song, (William) Gallas and Silvestre now who can play centre-back so we have a congestion there," said the Frenchman, whose side face FC Twente in the second leg of the Champions League qualifying round on Wednesday.
