Diaby has begun to find his form again after regaining his fitness |
Abou Diaby has signed a new long-term contract at Arsenal that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2012. The 21-year-old French midfielder, who signed from Auxerre in January 2006, played his 55th game for Arsenal in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Newcastle.
He suffered a broken and dislocated ankle against Sunderland at the end of his first season with the Gunners and spent seven months on the sidelines.
But he has played 21 times this season and is pushing for a starting place.
Diaby, who is a graduate of the Clairefontaine Academy in Paris, has scored three goals in all competitions this season.
Manager Arsene Wenger is also hoping to tie in-form midfielder Matthieu Flamini to the club on a new long-term deal.
The 23-year-old Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and talks are on-going.
Wenger said: "I am hoping to finalise it. He wants to stay, and I want him to stay - so we will find an agreement.
"I am not especially concerned, because I believe what he tells me."
