Cygan has failed to hold down a regular place at the club

Villarreal announced they had agreed a fee with Arsenal and that the transfer would go through providing the 32-year-old Frenchman passed a medical.

Cygan has agreed terms on a two-year contract and will be reunited with former Arsenal winger Robert Pires.

Cygan joined the Gunners from Lille in July 2002 and played a key role in Arsenal's unbeaten Premiership campaign in 2003-04.
