Vela scored five goals at the Under-17 World Championships |
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has put any move for Guadalajara's 17-year-old Mexican striker Carlos Vela on hold. Vela has been training with the Gunners and has also been linked with Real Madrid and Valencia.
"He was one of the young boys we had in training to have a look at them but he has gone back to his club," said Wenger of the 2.5m-rated forward.
"In one or two years we will decide but we cannot comment until he is of the age of 18 anyway."
Vela has been the subject of intense interest from Arsenal for some time.
His stock rose in the recent Under-17 World Championships in Peru where he finished as the leading scorer in a tournament Mexico won.
Vela's agent Eduardo Hernandez said earlier: "It has been an excellent experience for Carlos at Arsenal so far.
"His family are enchanted by London and Thierry Henry has greeted him warmly. We all went to see them play Manchester City and took a tour of their new stadium."
Reports in Mexico claim agents purporting to represent Chelsea have also been in contact.
Vela has been quoted as saying his "future is in Spanish football".
