Arsenal rule out swoop for Guti

Guti had turned down a previous move to Highbury
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ended speculation he could try to bring Real Madrid midfielder Guti to the club.

Guti has been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton, Juventus and AC Milan since Real revealed that they would listen to offers for him.

The 28-year-old's agent had indicated that he favoured a move to Arsenal.

But Wenger insisted: "I am not looking at Guti at all. I cannot say any more about it. It is either yes or no and in this case it is no."

Guti - rated at 13m - has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Bernabeu and is keen for a fresh start elsewhere.

"The president wants to help him and he wants to leave but the third ingredient is missing - a club that wants to buy him," Real's director of football Arrigo Sacchi Sacchi told Spanish newspaper Marca on Tuesday,

"If one comes forward then we will talk."

Guti was close to joining Arsenal in an 11m deal two years ago but got cold feet at the last minute and instead signed to stay in the Spanish capital.

But his agent Zoran Vekic said recently: "After Real Madrid, his only desire if he was to move to England, would be to play for Arsenal," said Vekic.

"He likes their style, team spirit and, of course, they have a great coach."
