Arsene Wenger paid tribute to "world class" Thierry Henry after he reached a century of Premiership goals in the victory over Southampton at Highbury.
Henry recorded his 100th and 101st strikes in the 2-0 win that put Arsenal five points clear at the top of the table.
Wenger said: "I knew it would not be a problem for Thierry reaching the 100 goals. The expectation would not have weighed him down. He is top, top class. Everybody knows that - he is a world class player."
Southampton were furious after both goals, believing the first was offside and the second should have been disallowed for a foul.
Wenger expressed "sympathy" for angry Saints boss Gordon Strachan over the second goal although he insisted: "I don't think it would have changed the game."
And he added on the first: "Some people have said it was offside, others say it was not conclusive.
"But you must trust the fact that Thierry is very intelligent and when he's left on the wing, he's rarely offside.
"I've seen him given offside more times when he's onside than the reverse. Of course, I'm the Arsenal manager but it's difficult to keep up with him."
