Harding surprised by England call
Ben Harding
Aldershot midfielder Ben Harding has said he was not expecting to be included in the England C squad for Wednesday's clash against Wales.

The former England schoolboy could make his debut in the match at Exeter City.

He told BBC Southern Counties Radio: "It's a real honour, and not something I was expecting, but I've had quite a decent season and can't wait.

"It is another game in a busy season, but I just love playing football, for club or country."

Harding represented England at under-15 and under-16 level, playing alongside the likes of Darren Bent, Glenn Johnson and David Bentley.

"You could see even then that they were special players and have gone on to better things.

"I watched Bentley play so well for England's senior team against Switzerland recently. He's proved he can play at the highest level."

Joining Harding in the England C squad is fellow Aldershot midfielder Lewis Chalmers.

"Its a nice accolade to be recognised as one of the best under-23s at this level," said Chalmers.

"But you also turn it to your advantage, mixing with other Conference players like Mitchell Cole, Russ Penn and Lance Cronin."
