Coid has made 326 career appearances

Accrington have completed the signing of former Blackpool defender Danny Coid on a one-year deal.

The 29-year-old, who joined Blackpool in August 1998, moves to the Crown Ground on a free transfer.

Coid told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I knew things were good here last year when they got to the play-offs.

"Accrington are one of those teams that gets a lot of stick but it's a local club and I'm that type of person who wants to stay local."

Coid was restricted to just one appearance for Blackpool last season in the 4-3 Carling Cup defeat by MK Dons in August.

He had two loan spells with Rotherham during the campaign where he made a total of nine appearances.

And having been a mainstay of the Blackpool squad for a number of seasons, he was disappointed to have missed out on any involvement in the Seasiders' Premier League campaign.

"To not get a chance was gut-wrenching," said the Liverpool-born defender.

"It was quite upsetting to be at one place for so long and to miss out on something you dream about for so long.

"You come in every day with your head down because you're not getting that chance, but you try to show the right attitude by working hard.

"Sometimes I was training with the kids and just thought I didn't get a chance, especially when the manager [Ian Holloway] made 10 changes against Aston Villa. That's why I went out on loan to Rotherham.

"But it happens in football. It's nothing personal against Holloway, he was just doing his job."
