Defiant Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee looks to rebuild team

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee looks unhappy at the final whistle after the defeat by Hamilton
McGhee is looking to the summer to rebuild his struggling Dons team

Mark McGhee felt he learned nothing new about his Aberdeen side after they were beaten 3-1 by Hamilton at Pittodrie.

The Dons boss said: "I wasn't surprised by anything I saw. We need to get to the summer and improve the depth of the squad. We know our weaknesses."

But McGhee was irked at being asked if he was happy about his position at the end of a disappointing first season.

"My record in terms of management is good. At the moment I've a team that is failing and I intend to change that."

The Dons have won only nine games in the Scottish Premier League this season and have suffered defeat on 16 occasions.

They are in ninth position in the table, seven points adrift of their victors Hamilton.

"We'll go out and get some new players and we'll lose some. We'll come back next season stronger and better," McGhee told BBC Scotland after the match.

"We don't have a real target centre forward to play with Steven MacLean or whoever we play up front. We know we need a physical midfield player, we know we need a bit of width on the right. We know defensively we are short at times.

"We have to muddle through to the end of the season and then make as many changes as we can."

A section of the home support booed at the final whistle, but some of the crowd of 7,099 had already departed by the time the Accies had gone three ahead thanks to goals early in each half by Flavio Paixao and James Wesolowski respectively, and a Simon Mensing penalty.

Second-half red cards for Richard Foster and Zander Diamond added to the Dons' misery.
