Dons boss McGhee pleased with Fraser Fyvie deal

Aberdeen midfielder Fraser Fyvie celebrates his goal against Hearts
Fyvie became the SPL's youngest-ever scorer at Tynecastle on Wednesday

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee admitted that securing Fraser Fyvie's future at Pittodrie has eased pressure on the player and the club.

Fyvie signed a three-year contract extension with Aberdeen on Thursday.

The 16-year-old became the Scottish Premier League's youngest-ever scorer in Wednesday's 3-0 win against Hearts.

"We can relax and work with him for the next few years and know we have a player who is going to get better," said McGhee.

Fyvie, whose new deal ties him to Aberdeen until 2013, made his first-team debut at 16 years and six months when he started in a 3-0 win over Hamilton Accies earlier this season.

McGhee is now keen to get on with working closely to keep Fyvie improving for the Pittodrie club.

"We expect Fraser to improve rapidly as a player and to catch the eye," said McGhee.

"It now means we're protected and we're not under pressure to have to sell him because he's out of contract or something like that."

Fyvie has now made 13 appearances and grabbed his record-breaking first goal on Wednesday at Tynecastle.

He surpassed the achievement of Dundee United striker David Goodwillie, who was 16 years and 11 months when he found the target in a 3-1 defeat away to Hibernian in March 2006.

Dons director of football Willie Miller said: "Fraser is a fantastic talent.

"He has made a big impact since coming into the team and, given that he is so young, it makes that achievement all the more impressive."
