Hodgkiss has played in the English Premier League with West Brom
Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood has signed West Brom defender Jared Hodgkiss on loan until January.
The 21-year-old, who recently signed a new two-year contract at the Hawthorns, has been brought in to cover the Dons' troublesome right-back spot.
Calderwood told BBC Sport: "It's a position Lee Mair and Stuart Duff can play, but they are better elsewhere.
"Richard Foster has done well there, so I've told Jared he won't come in straight away, but he's in the squad."
Calderwood continued: "Foster was probably our best player against Ayr in the Co-operative Insurance Cup.
"We are not going to go through a whole season without injuries and the loss of form, so Jared will help us there."
The acquisition of Hodgkiss means that Calderwood has ended his interest in former Aberdeen and Hearts right-back Alan Maybury, who ended last season on loan at Pittodrie but is currently without a club.
Calderwood said earlier in the week that he hoped to sign three players before Saturday's SPL clash with St Mirren.
"We have a couple of irons in the fire and we are waiting by the phone to hear from clubs down south," Calderwood explained.
The Dons boss is hoping for a repeat of the successful spells spent with Aberdeen by Sone Alouko and Josh Walker last season.
"Josh is now in the Middlesbrough squad, while Sone is the same now that he has returned to Birmingham."
CSKA Sofia defender Quido Lanzaat, who is available on loan from the Bulgarian outfit, remains in Calderwood's thoughts despite returning to his club after a trial spell at Pittodrie.
