Calderwood's Aberdeen face a daunting return leg in Munich

"It was a wonderful performance in the first half, the whole game really," he told BBC Two Scotland.

"To draw against a team at this level really says a lot about the boys, as Bayern are a top quality team.

"We were disappointed with their goals. We've had to work hard. We got two wonderful goals to get ours."

The stalemate means the Scots still have a chance to progress in the tournament at the expense of the Bavarian giants.

"It's a strange game," added Calderwood.

"We've got to play for 90 minutes and they'll bring a few of their bigger ones back, Mark van Bommel and a few other lads, but it's still open."

Meanwhile, scorer Soni Aluko admitted that his strike to put the Dons 2-1 ahead was a personal highlight.

"I don't think I'll forget that one, I just hit it well and it went in - that's my best one so far."

The winger, on-loan from Birmingham City, added: "I think we played out of our skins today.

"In the first half we were magnificent, in the second half we dug in and got a result."

And Aluko insists Aberdeen can go on to win the tie, stressing the last 32 tie remains alive.

"I think it is - anything is possible in football.
