Calderwood was pleased with his side's performance at Pittodrie |
Manager Jimmy Calderwood remains bullish about Aberdeen's chances of reaching the Uefa Cup group phase after the stalemate with Dnipro. "We played really well and created good chances," he told BBC Sport after an absorbing 0-0 draw at Pittodrie.
"For long phases of the game we dominated a good team. We had to play at pace and we did that well.
"I think we are capable of scoring over there. They will have to open up and we have a bit of pace about us."
In the 25th anniversary season of their Cup Winners' Cup win, Aberdeen were returning to European football for the first time in five years.
And the game was Calderwood's first foray into a continental competition.
"It was a great experience and once you get a taste of it, you want more," added the Dons boss.
Aberdeen captain Scott Severin was also optimistic on the chances of progressing.
"I thought the boys were brilliant," he said. "We got stuck in right from the start.
"We created chances and hopefully we can go over there and do the same.
"It will be difficult but we will certainly give it our all."
Those thoughts were echoed by substitute Richard Foster, who said: "The game was played at a really fast pace.
"To come on and try to get into it was very difficult.
"We're disappointed not to score but, if we get a goal over there, I think we can go through."
