New captain Scott Severin is determined to lead Aberdeen to their first major trophy in more than a decade.
The 28-year-old midfielder was chosen by manager Jimmy Calderwood to replace Russell Anderson, who left last week to join Sunderland for £1m.
"It will be difficult to follow Russell who was an outstanding captain," Severin told the club website.
"The one thing he did not do was win a trophy and hopefully we can do that under my captaincy."
Severin moved to Pittodrie from Hearts in June 2004 and the Scotland international has scored eight goals in the last three seasons.
"There were three or four strong candidates for the role, which is a good sign for the team, so I was glad that I got picked," he added.
Aberdeen, who finished third in the SPL last term, have not lifted silverware since the League Cup in season 1995/96.
