Scott Severin enjoyed seven years with Hearts |
Scotland international Scott Severin has become Jimmy Caldewood's first signing for Aberdeen. The 25-year-old midfielder with eight caps has agreed a two-year deal at Pittodrie after leaving Hearts.
"Aberdeen has shown ambition in persuading Jimmy Calderwood to lead the club forward and I'm looking forward to working with him," said Severin.
"I had several offers but after talking with Jimmy I'm delighted that I'll be playing my football for Aberdeen."
Severin spent seven years at Hearts but the Edinburgh club were unable to offer him a new deal.
"Scott has always been a player who has impressed me and I'm sure he will add strength and quality to the squad," said Calderwood.
"He is the type of player in terms of ability, ambition and attitude that we want to bring to Aberdeen.
"He is an International player and his experience will be invaluable in taking the club forward." Aberdeen football executive Willie Miller insists Severin's decision to sign for the Dons will boost his international career prospects.
Severin made his last Scotland appearance as a late substitute in a friendly defeat to Portugal in November 2002.
"The deal was not about money for Scott. It is about career enhancement," said Miller.
"We see this as a chance for Scott to get back into the Scotland team.
"Scott is a versatile player, but Jimmy is looking at him as a midfielder with bite. He can also play anywhere, which is the type of player Jimmy likes.
"When Jimmy arrived at Pittodrie and got his feet under the desk, he gave me a list of players he wanted to bring in. Scott was very high on that list."
