Referee Willie Collum brings the match to a close. Rangers take the three points, courtesy of Kyle Bartley's first senior goal, and cut Celtic's lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League to five points. St Mirren had their chances, particularly when David van Zanten burst into the box late on, but they remain seven points clear of bottom club Hamilton.
1436: FULL-TIME St Mirren 0-1 Rangers
1433: We're into injury time, of which there will be three minutes, and St Mirren miss a great chance to level. Craig Dargo plays a neat pass inside to David van Zanten and the full-back arrows his shot wide from a promising position.
1432: Hugh Murray's drive spins across the Rangers box and pinballs around inside the area before being cleared.
1431: Kenny McLean sends a dangerous cross into the Rangers box and Madjid Bougherra heads the ball away before Craig Dargo can get a sight of goal
1429: Rangers midfielder Steven Davis brings the ball down and dips a shot just over the crossbar.
From Sheaffdawg by Twitter using #BBCSportsound: "We need to see more from Higdon and McGowan, they need to shift up a gear #BBCSportsound"
1423: We're into the last 10 minutes now. Rangers have a precarious lead and St Mirren now have Craig Dargo up front with Michael Higdon.
1422: Gregg Wylde's free-kick is blocked by the St Mirren wall before the hosts make a change, Craig Dargo coming on for Jim Goodwin.
1421: Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor collects Jim Goodwin's dipping shot.
1416: Rangers miss an excellent chance to double their lead. Steven Davis plays Maurice Edu through on goal but the midfielder's first touch is poor and he drags his shot wide.
1415: Rangers make a double substitution with Gregg Wylde and Kyle Hutton coming on for David Healy and John Fleck.
1414: St Mirren's Jure Travner receives the game's first booking for felling El Hadji Diouf.
1413: In fact, it's a double change with Kyle Hutton also coming on.
1412: Rangers are about to bring on Gregg Wylde.
1411: Paul McGowan was almost in behind the Rangers defence there but Kyle Bartley gets back to make the interception.
"It wouldn't surprise me if Rangers took John Fleck off, moved Steven Whittaker inside and stuck Gregg Wylde on the left side, just to make sure they are keeping things secure." BBC Sportsound football pundit Billy Dodds
1406: The St Mirren fans are furious after Kenny McLean goes down on the edge of the box under the challenge of Kyle Bartley and referee Willie Collum waves play on.
1401: A bit of head tennis on the edge of the Rangers box ends when Maurice Edu's clearance rebounds off Lee Mair's outstretched foot and spins wide. Almost a bizarre goal.
"That was his opportunity to make his reputation in the game, scoring a free-kick against Rangers." BBC Sportsound pundit Gordon Smith laments Kenny McLean's wayward free-kick.
1357: St Mirren win a free-kick around 30 yards out and Kenny McLean's curving shot drifts out of play.
1355: Maurice Edu volleys over the St Mirren bar from John Fleck's corner.
1352: Paul McGowan has another shot, this time peeling off at the back post to meet Kenny McLean's corner and dipping a volley wide.
1348: We're back for the second half with St Mirren kicking off.
From anon. by text on 80295: "Rangers need a real class creative fulcrum in the middle of the park eg Eremenko or dare I say it a Charlie Adam."
The first half draws to a close with no injury time. A largely scrappy game so far with Rangers finding the breakthrough with Kyle Bartley's header on 24 minutes. St Mirren have put some dangerous crosses into the box and and Kenny McLean's volley is the closest they have come to scoring so far.
1331: HALF-TIME St Mirren 0-1 Rangers
"Ally McCoist and Walter Smith cannot be happy with their performance. In fact, I think they will be angry. It has not been good enough." BBC Sportsound pundit Gordon Smith
1326: Paul McGowan controls well at the edge of the Rangers box after a corner is cleared but the St Mirren forward does not catch his shot quite right and it sails wide.
1323: David Healy tees up Maurice Edu for a strike 20 yards out but the American cannot keep his effort down.
1316: A nervous moment for St Mirren as Paul Gallacher comes off his line and collides with one of his own players as he punches the ball away but the danger is eventually mopped up by the home side.
1315: St Mirren threaten an equaliser. David van Zanten's cross is met on the volley by Kenny McLean but the midfielder's effort clears the crossbar.
"St Mirren have given it away themselves with the bad marking and it has allowed Rangers to relax a little now." BBC Sportsound pundit Gordon Smith
1311: That is Kyle Bartley's first goal since joining Rangers on loan from Arsenal.
Rangers take the lead. Madjid Bougherra runs on to El Hadji Diouf's throw-in and lifts a cross to the back post where Kyle Bartley bullets a downward header into the net.
1309: GOAL St Mirren 0-1 Rangers (Bartley)
1308: Rangers win a free-kick wide on the left and Steven Davis's shot is tipped over the bar by Paul Gallacher. A good effort from the visitors and a good save.
1306: More pressure from St Mirren as Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor awkwardly tips the ball out for a corner and, from the corner, Lee Mair's header is cleared off the line by John Fleck.
"This is a problem Rangers have had for a few months. They are just not getting their football going. They are not dominating games or teams." BBC Sportsound pundit Gordon Smith
1304: Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra makes an important near-post clearance from Kenny McLean's dangerous cross.
1300: The play is really scrappy so far, neither set of players really showing any composure on the ball.
"I think we're going to lose Paul McGowan today. We won't see the best of him in that role he is playing." BBC Sportsound pundit Billy Dodds would prefer to see the St Mirren striker play in a more advanced position.
1256: The game has not really got going yet. Both teams are still sizing each other up.
1253: Rangers striker David Healy receives El Hadji Diouf and fires a shot into Paul Gallacher's arms but the offside flag had already been raised.
1251: The game's first effort is a wayward shot well over the bar from Rangers' Steven Whittaker.
1250: The visitors are enjoying plenty of possession early on but the well organised Buddies are proving difficult to break down thus far.
1248: Rangers appear to be adopting the three centre-backs approach they employed at the start of Wednesday's defeat to Celtic. St Mirren have a five-man midfield with the furthest forward of them Paul McGowan supporting lone striker Michael Higdon.
1246: And the game begins.
"It's a very pleasant day for football, the pitch has been heavily watered." Sportsound commentator David Begg
1240: We're nearing kick-off time. Five minutes to go.
"I've had quieter weeks. Neil (Lennon) and I were fine after the game, we had a bottle of beer and a glass of wine and that was fine. That would be my last comment on it. Neil and myself will have to explain our performance at the SFA meeting but up until then, I've got absolutely nothing to say. We've got a tough game today against a side that always make it difficult." Rangers assistant Ally McCoist on Sportsound, discussing Wednesday's Old Firm game and looking ahead to today's match
1230: St Mirren's Darren McGregor misses the match following the death of his father. Marc McAusland "took a bad one on the eye" in training, according to manager Danny Lennon, and has to make do with a place on the bench. Despite the injuries to his team, Lennon says there is plenty of experience throughout the side.
1222: Full teams from St Mirren Park St Mirren: Gallacher, van Zanten, Mair, Potter, Travner, Thomson, Murray, Goodwin, McLean, McGowan, Higdon. Subs: Samson, Dargo, McAusland, Lynch, Cregg, Mooy, Lamont. Rangers: McGregor, Foster, Bougherra, Weir, Bartley, Whittaker, Davis, Edu, Fleck, Healy, Diouf. Subs: Alexander, Kerkar, Wylde, Hutton, Cole, Hemmings. Referee: William Collum
1221: These two sides have only met once this season when Rangers ran out 3-1 victors in Paisley in November. Rangers were due to host St Mirren in December but the game was called off due to water damage at Ibrox. That fixture has yet to be rearranged.
1214: A win for St Mirren would take them 10 points clear of SPL bottom club Hamilton while Rangers are looking for the victory that would take them to within five points of leaders Celtic.
1212: Early team news from St Mirren Park. The home side are without head knock victim Marc McAusland and Darren McGregor, who has suffered a family bereavement. Craig Dargo has been struggling for fitness but makes the bench. Rangers list only six substitutes including under-19 striker Kane Hemmings. Sasa Papac has not yet recovered from the head knock he took during Wednesday's Old Firm Scottish Cup defeat so Steven Whittaker is moved to left-back. David Healy takes Papac's place in the starting line-up, the striker partnering El Hadji Diouf in attack.
1211: Today's game sees St Mirren host Rangers in the weekend's penultimate Scottish Premier League fixture, Dundee United taking on Aberdeen on Monday evening.
1210: Good afternoon and welcome to today's live Scottish football coverage.
