Scottish Sunday football as it happened

GOALFLASHES AND MAJOR INCIDENTS (all times BST)

MY SPORT: DEBATE

To get involved use My Sport or text us your views & comments on 80295. (Not all contributions can be used)

By Keir Murray

1617: The highlights from yesterday's matches go online at 1800 GMT, including Celtic's NINE goals. The best bits from today's two games will be available at midnight tonight (available to UK users only). Hope you can join us in midweek. Many thanks for your company and contributions. Bye.

1614: Before I head off, a wee word for My Sport regular bringthemonjpn, who is getting married to Miwa. Congratulations. Be careful - shopping malls and DIY could fill your weekends in future!

1613: "First Hibs manager since the useless duff Jimmy (that'll be Jim Duffy, folks) to lose his first three games - and we know how that ended up. This isn't looking good." Anonymous text to 80295.

1610: OneForTheFallen, what can we say? We bow before you. "Temporal regenerative effect"? Is that the same as, um, "bounce" where the players suddenly start playing well for the new guy?

Full time
Full-time: Hibs 0-2 Hearts

My Sport
OneForTheFallen on My Sport says: "Calderwood is way out of his depth here. He hasn't even had the often temporal regenerative effect most new managers do. In interviews he looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Trying to play defensive football with a mostly offensive squad and poor defenders. A poor appointment by Hibs, he will be lucky to see the end of January."

1605: It's been a series of substitutions and crazy challenges these past 10 minutes. You are not missing any football action!

1603: Rudi Skacel gets to his feet and dodges some sort of debris being thrown at him by the Hibs fans. Riordan will be embarrassed by that challenge when he sees it again. Not only was he late, but his outstretched foot raked down the knee of the Hearts midfielder.

Red card
1603: Hibs captain Derek Riordan is sent off for a howler of a challenge on Rudi Skacel.

1601: Hearts decide there can only be one Elliot on the field at the same time, so they remove goal hero Stephen and send on baby-faced assassin Calum.

1558: The technical area resembles the entrance to Jenners department store, as Ian Murray comes on for Hibs' Lewis Stevenson. And Hearts striker Calum Elliot prepares to enter the fray.

1557: "Could Hibs be facing a relegation battle?" David in Edinburgh

1555: Jim Jefferies sends on Ryan Stevenson for the scorer of that wonderful first goal, David Templeton.

1553: Kevin Kyle goes for the ball over at the new stand at Easter Road and is given pelters - actual pelters, not just verbal - by disgruntled Hibs fans. Kyle, his face bloodied by two earlier on-field clashes, throws the ball away in disgust...and is booked by Willie Collum. Lucky white heather!

1551: Is this a record for calls for a manager's head? Three games in and... "Simple as this - long ball Larry Calderwood out and Russel Latapy in. NOW." Stu McIntosh in Glasgow, by text to 80295.

1549: There is more to Hearts' Kevin Kyle than being a target man - his backheel under pressure in midfield sets up a team-mate.

1547: The Hearts fans are enjoying this. They are on their feet, taunting their struggling hosts.

My Sport
Re 1529... Radio on My Sport says: "Steven Husband joined Premier League side Blackpool last season."

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
A flick-on by Kevin Kyle from a free-kick sets up David Templeton who out-muscles Michael Hart and the ball falls for striker Stephen Elliot to slam home his first goal for the Gorgie club.

GOAL! Hibernian 0-2 Hearts (Elliot)

1539: The attendance in the expanded Easter Road is 17,767, most of whom are looking at how swiftly time is running out for them to equalise.

1537: Jim Jefferies is upset at the defensive offering of midfielder Rudi Skacel. At the other end of the pitch, though, the Czech star causes mayhem in the "D" of the Hibs box with his probing.

1535: Hibs midfielder Liam Miller is Pole-axed...by Adrian Mrowiec, who is booked for his rash challenge from behind.

1532: It's been a disappointing start for Colin Calderwood since he took the Hibs job, although he hasn't had the benefit of an easy run. Defeats away to Aberdeen and Dundee United could now be followed by a home derby defeat. Can his players turn this match around?

1530: Ian Black crosses into the box, Sol Bamba slips and Hearts midfielder Rudi Skacel and Stephen Elliot go for the ball at the same time and the chance is wasted. Cue that favourite of the Scottish football stadium: "Wan o' yeez!"

1529: "Can any of the team tell me what happened to Steven Husband? Hearts signed him from Cowden 3 or 4 seasons ago and I have never heard of him since." Bosco, Cowdenbeath, by text to 80295.

1527: Marian Kello does well to collect a shot by Hibs captain Derek Riordan that bounced a few feet in front of him.

1525: With Kevin Kyle requiring treatment to his scalp after a heavy blow from Hibs keeper Mark Brown, BBC Scotland commentator Paul Mitchell remarks: "All is fair in love, war and the Edinburgh derby."

1521: Danny Galbraith wins a corner for Hibs, forcing Marius Zaliukas to concede possession.

1520: Better from the Cabbage & Ribs. Derek Riordan slides a pass to the overlapping Jonathan Grounds and his low cross is smothered by Marian Kello.

1519: John Rankin makes way for the Lithuanian Valdas Trakys in the Hibs ranks.

1516: An important 45 minutes awaits Hibs. If the score stays the same, only goal difference will separate them from the bottom of the Scottish Premier League.

1514: An anonymous text to 80295: "I thought it was a valiant effort by the stewards to deal with the mischievous threat of a flare. Always nice to see my brother on tv, on the pitch at Easter Road, dealing with those naughty Hearts fans."

1503 HALF TIME: Hibernian 0-1 Hearts

1500 "I wonder if he fancies a dipper," says BBC Scotland's Craig Paterson of Derek Riordan. No, we've no idea what he's on about either.

1458Another crunching tackle as Ian Black brings down Hibs' Danny Galbraith. There's no quarter asked and none given today.

1450:Kyle has been in the wars following a challenge with Jonathan Grounds, blood and snotters on the touchline for the former Killie striker, but his head appears to be made of hard stuff and he makes a return to the action.

1450: A lovely ball over the top by Kevin Kyle has Irish striker Stephen Elliot in full flight, but Hibs' Jonathan Grounds manages to keep pace with him and clears the danger.

1448: Hibs midfielder Edwin de Graaf is booked by Willie Collum for clipping the legs of speedy goalscorer David Templeton.

1447: "What Hibs have got to do is use the ball better from back to front." It's that man Allan Preston on Radio Scotland

1445: "Just curious to find out what Allan Preston's voice sounded like before it broke?" JS in Stonehouse, by text to 80295, queries the history of the popular BBC Scotland summariser's vocal pitch

1443: As David Templeton lines up an in-swinging free-kick, the six Hibs players hold hands in a perfect line across the box, keeping an eye on the maroon-jerseyed Kevin Kyle and Stephen Elliot.

1440: With confidence coursing through the veins of the Hearts players, Ismael Bouzid sparks an attack by executing a back-heel through the legs of an opponent.

1438: Hilarious scenes at Easter Road as the Hibs stewards struggle to cope with the chilling threat of a flare that was thrown on to the pitch. For a moment I thought I was viewing Spooks. Any fans of Italian football will have been watching slack-jawed - there was sand, a bucket and a spade, presumably borrowed from Portobello beach...

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
What a fantastic goal by David Templeton! The young Hearts striker picked the ball up on the halfway line, surged forward, cut across three Hibs defenders, who failed to put in a challenge, and slid the ball past Mark Brown.

GOAL! Hibernian 0-1 Hearts (Templeton)

1434: I wonder how much focus will be on Collum for this game. This could be every bit as fiery as the Old Firm match which he recently officiated.

1433: Oh, no they don't. Instead, Willie Collum awards a goal-kick, taken by Hibs keeper Mark Brown.

1431: Neither side is completing more than three passes in a row. Hang on, Hearts have a corner...

1430: It's scrappy in midfield so far. The challenges are flying in.

1427: Hearts' Eggert Jonsson panics when confronted by Lewis Stevenson and knocks the ball straight out of play.

1425: Hearts haven't tested Mark Brown in the Hibs goal yet, but the home side are troubling the Jambos' defence with a few high balls into the box.

1422: Liam Miller clatters Hearts' midfielder Ian Black. That may set the tone.

1418: Hibs are first to threaten. Derek Riordan floats a free-kick into the box and big Sol Bamba evades Ismael Bouzid to head across goal.

1416: The match is under way. The stadium looks immense.

1415: Derek Riordan is the Hibs captain. I think it's fair to say he'll be up for this game.

1413: Celtic boss Neil Lennon and Scotland manager Craig Levein enjoy a bit of banter prior to kick-off.

1411: "Hibs play 4-5-1? The famous McGhee set-up! Only teams with talented and adaptable players can use this over-rated, mainly defensive formation! Get your dough on Hearts!" says Barney in Neilston via text on 80295

1410: BBC Radio Scotland pundit Billy Dodds thinks Hearts might just edge it today.

1401: Hearts go with: Kello, Zaliukas, Palazuelos, Bouzid, Jonsson, Mrowiec, Elliott, Black, Skacel, Templeton, Kyle. Subs: MacDonald, Santana, Elliot, Stevenson, Jason Thomson, Glen, Craig Thomson.

1400: Colin Calderwood's Hibernian team to play Hearts is: Brown, Hart, Bamba, Hanlon, Grounds, Galbraith, De Graaf, Miller, Rankin, Stevenson, Riordan. Subs: Smith, Hogg, Murray, Dickoh, McBride, Trakys, Wotherspoon.

1354: Eugh. Looking at that Kenny Miller goal, I am reminded of some of my own defensive howlers. Marc McAusland was facing his own goal and trying to control John Potter's header but tried to knee the ball into the air to set it up for a volley back up the park. Unfortunately for him, Miller was on his shoulder, sniffing for a chance to nick the ball.

1353: Incredibly, there are 23 points now separating Rangers and St Mirren, and 11 points between second-place Celtic and third-place Motherwell.

Full time
Full-time: St Mirren 1-3 Rangers

1351: After a poor first half, this has been a decent spectacle in the second period. Kyle Lafferty certainly made a difference to Rangers' scoring threat.

1350: Hibs v Hearts kicks off in 25 minutes' time - the first Edinburgh derby of the season.

1349: Lee McCulloch knocks the ball out of play as Rangers team-mate Kyle Lafferty requires treatment.

1347: With four minutes to go, it looks like Rangers and St Mirren will be at opposite ends of the SPL table, though the Paisley side will be within three points of eighth-placed St Johnstone.

1344: Kyle Lafferty makes a skilful run from the left, weaving his way into the box along the bye-line. St Mirren clear the danger.

1342: There will be some debate about St Mirren's penalty. Jure Travner's cross undoubtedly hit Steven Davis's left arm but there was little the Rangers man could have done about it - his arm was by his side. Ball to hand or hand to ball? Check out the highlights at midnight (UK users only).

1341: Rangers' Algerian defender Madjid Bougherra thumps into the back of Higdon. Clumsy at best.

1339: Michael Higdon holds his head in his hands after ballooning a shot over the bar. Jure Travner's cross had been completely missed by David Weir, Higdon controlled the ball beautifully but then, with Sasa Papac about to challenge, the big striker's wasted the chance.

1338: St Mirren have 13 minutes in which to score two goals to salvage a point from this game.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Saints striker Michael Higdon keeps his cool to expertly crack a penalty past Allan McGregor.

GOAL! St Mirren 1-3 Rangers (Higdon pen)

Someone has won a penalty
1335: St Mirren are awarded a penalty by referee Craig Thomson after Jure Travner's cross hits Steven Davis's hand.

1334: "This is an afternoon Marc McAusland will want to forget." BBC Radio Scotland commentator Rob Maclean

Someone has struck the woodwork
1331: St Mirren go close when Madjid Bougherra diverts a cross against his own post, then Allan McGregor produces a great reaction save to stop Michael Higdon's deflected shot from crossing the line.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Kenny Miller scores his 14th goal in the Scottish Premier League, pouncing on hesitation by Marc McAusland following a header from the halfway line towards his own goal by John Potter.

GOAL! St Mirren 0-3 Rangers (Miller)

1325: St Mirren enjoy a bit of possession with Paddy Cregg, Michael Higdon and Darren McGregor taking the sting out of Rangers' play.

1322: St Mirren's Hugh Murray makes an important block to stop Sasa Papac's cross from the left, as the visitors turn up the heat.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
The Buddies are ripped apart by a swift move. Steven Davis, the creative spark in the Rangers side, makes a run from midfield, passes to the left to Kyle Lafferty, who had taken up a good position, and his Northern Ireland team-mate crosses for Steven Naismith to side-foot home.

GOAL! St Mirren 0-2 Rangers (Naismith)

1317: Does Maurice Edu have a twin on the pitch? he seems to be everywhere at the moment, winning tackles and making passes.

1315: By the wonders of technology, you can view images of this match in our photo gallery .

1314: Danny Lennon makes a change to the home team, introducing Michael Higdon for Aaron Mooy.

1312: I bet Marc McAusland would not have believed you if you had told him he would score against Aberdeen and Rangers in consecutive games...

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
If you are a Buddies fan or a friend of Marc McAusland's, it's a bad moment, as the St Mirren defender heads Steven Davis's cross into his own net after Kyle Lafferty had altered the flight of the ball with a glancing header.

GOAL! St Mirren 0-1 Rangers (McAusland)

1306: Rangers do the early pressing in the second half. By the way, there are fewer than 6,000 in St Mirren Park.

1304: Rangers make a change: striker Kyle Lafferty comes on for left-winger Vladimir Weiss.

1302: After all the guff that has been said and written in the past week about referees, some sense from the south coast of England. "Why does everyone think there's a conspiracy against non-Old Firm sides? That goal shows referees are just human, they miss stuff." Luke in Plymouth by text to 80295

1259: Credit to Danny Lennon and his team so far. They have offered little in the way of attacking threat but sometimes it's all about closing down the space and stopping the other team from scoring. Maybe he's been watching how the Rangers boss does it in Europe (Valencia excepted)?

1255: And Stefan in Haddington has a view on the incident too: "To say there wasn't much of a challenge is the understatement of the century. Look at Samson's reaction after the ball hits the net - he knows it's his error and never a foul."

1253: "In jumps Chick to tell us Rangers' goal should have stood. Where was he when Saints had the ball in the net? St Mirren fan my backside." From Richard by text to 80295.

1252: "Thought the rule was if you raised your hand it's an automatic red? Seen it all before in St Mirren v the Old Firm. Celtic got away with two automatic red-card decisions at Paisley in recent years. Officials favour the Old Firm - end of." GeorgeMac, Paisley, by text to 80295

Half time
1248: HALF TIME: St Mirren 0-0 Rangers

1244: Rangers have the ball in the net as Steven Naismith heads the ball in from Vladimir Weiss' corner, but referee Craig Thomson blows for a foul on St Mirren keeper Craig Samson. There didn't look to be much of a challenge.

1244: Gareth Wardlaw is released by a fine pass, but the flag goes up for offside as the former Cowdenbeath man raced clear of the Rangers defence. It was a close call for the assistant referee.

1242: "It is all about personal battles and St Mirren are winning them. St Mirren have turned it into a cup tie and that's exactly what they had to do - battle for their lives," thinks BBC Radio Scotland pundit Billy Dodds.

1240: Pinball in the St Mirren box leads to a cross from Sasa Papac which is met by the head of Maurice Edu, but the American's effort goes well over the bar.

Handbags
1234: David van Zanten and Vladimir Weiss are booked after a bit of argy-bargy. Well, evidently van Zanten wasn't booked for his trip on Weiss a few minutes ago.

Someone has struck the woodwork
1232: Oh, I say...! From the resultant free-kick, Steven Davis smacks the crossbar with a right-foot shot with Saints keeper Craig Samson diving in a manner last seen in Roy of the Rovers.

1230: Rangers' best play is coming down the left and the winger on that flank, the Slovakian Weiss, wins a foul after being felled by David van Zanten.

1227: Rangers look far more impressive when they play with more pace. Their American midfielder Maurice Edu increases the tempo and the ball falls for Kenny Miller in the Saints box, but his deflected shot fails to test the Buddies keeper, lurking in the shade.

1225: I guess this is the sort of game you have to win if you hope to win league titles. After drawing with Inverness Caley Thistle last week, Rangers won't want to drop more points after their terrific opening run of nine consecutive wins.

1223: Hugh Murray is not impressed by the step-overs of Rangers winger Vladimir Weiss. He bides his time and gets stuck in "old style".

1220: Some elocution lessons for a member of our commentary team: "Please tell Billy Dodds the word for a pair or two is 'couple', not 'cuttle', as in fish." Well, texter Jim, you can take the boy out of Cumnock...

1218: Kenny Miller showed greater balance than Patsy Kensit on Strictly Come Dancing but still manages to hoof his left-foot shot wide of the target.

1217: Striker Gareth Wardlaw is penalised for smashing into Allan McGregor as the Rangers goalkeeper went for a high ball.

1215: "You wonder if the build-up to so many big game for Rangers will take its toll." BBC Radio Scotland commentator Rob Maclean

1212: And at the other end, St Mirren's Gareth Wardlaw cannot get enough height on his leap and his header glances wide.

1210: A half chance at best for Rangers as Vladimir Weiss clips a low ball into the Saints box and Steven Davis is fractionally short of reaching it ahead of Craig Samson.

My Sport
We always appreciate hearing your views on the match. Boogie Bear on My Sport says: "Well done to Celtic on their big win. But any win today would put the champions back on top of the league. I'm expecting a tough game though."

1206: Paul McGowan, on loan from Celtic, shows nice footwork but the St Mirren move breaks down.

1204: Lee McCulloch connects with the corner kick but knocks it wide of Craig Samson's left-hand post.

1201: The match is under way. Rangers' Maurice Edu wins a few 50-50 challenges and his shot from 25 yards is deflected for a corner in the first minute.

1200: And here we go. The teams shake hands, with Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston watching from the stand with Walter Smith.

1158: It's a beautiful autumn day for "the Chick Young derby". The teams will be out on the pitch any moment now...

1157: "It's a home game for St Mirren. They will be giving it absolutely everything." BBC Scotland football pundit Billy Dodds

1156: "We just feel we are going to need some more width and Vladimir is a tricky player who can offer us that." Rangers manager Ally McCoist on the introduction of Vladimir Weiss

1155: "Michael struggled last week with a knee injury. We know we are going to be up against it and need good legs there in the middle of the park as we know that is where Rangers are going to be strong." St Mirren manager Danny Lennon on the absence of Michael Higdon from the starting line-up.

1151: St Mirren manager Danny Lennon says that, following their win over Aberdeen last weekend, the mood has gone "up a notch in training".

1146: Walter Smith has chosen Vladimir Weiss to play after the winger recovered from a heel injury in time for the short trip to Paisley. Kirk Broadfoot drops to the bench following the midweek Champions League defeat in Valencia.

1144: So St Mirren have made just one change from the side that started in their win over Aberdeen last week, with Hugh Murray replacing Michael Higdon.

1142: And the Rangers team to take to the field at St Mirren Park is: McGregor, Whittaker, Bougherra, Weir, Papac, Davis, Edu, McCulloch, Weiss, Naismith, Miller. Subs: Alexander, Broadfoot, Fleck, Lafferty, Foster, Wylde, Hutton.

1140: Danny Lennon's St Mirren line up as follows: Samson, van Zanten, Potter, McAusland, Travner, Murray, McGregor, Cregg, McGowan, Mooy, Wardlaw. Subs: Mathers, Brady, Higdon, McQuade, McCluskey, Kennedy, McLean.

1130: Good morning and welcome to the live text commentary covering today's two matches in the Scottish Premier League - St Mirren v Rangers (1200 GMT) and Hibernian v Hearts (1415 GMT).
