By Colin Moffat

1700: That's all from me folks. I'll leave the last words to Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee: "The defence were brilliant and the goalkeeper was excellent but we defended as a team. We've picked up three points that we think are thoroughly deserved."

1654: First Division results:
Dundee 0-0 Ross County
Raith Rovers 2-0 Dunfermline
Falkirk 3-0 Stirling Alb
Morton 2-0 Partick Thistle

Full time
1649: Full-time: St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen
The Dons are back on top of the league thanks to Darren Mackie's late strike at McDiarmid Park. It wasn't much of a game, although Dons manager Mark McGhee can be satisfied with the way his defence performed and will be delighted to have made a 100% start to the season after the travails of last term.

1647: A scare for Aberdeen as Andrew Considine and Mark Howard get in a muddle and the defender heads the ball behind his own goal. From the corner Kevin Rutkiewicz nods over.

1646: Three minutes of stoppage time for St Johnstone to salvage something from this game.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
The Dons are heading back to the top of the league after enjoying a small 'slice' of fortune. Sone Aluko crosses from the left and Darren Mackie's first time effort from near the penalty spot creeps into the corner of the net, despite not being a very clean hit.

1641: GOAL - St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen (Mackie)

1634: Raith Rovers have moved 2-0 ahead in the Fife derby. Laurence Ellis the man on target this time.

1632: A dreadful mis-kick from Zander Diamond almost allows St Johnstone sub Collin Samuel through but the striker is too slow to capitalise on a rare slip from the Dons defender.

1630: The First Division goals are raining in now. Falkirk are 2-0 to the good and skipper Iain Davidson has put Raith Rovers ahead against Fife rivals Dunfermline. A healthy crowd of 6,190 at Stark's Park for that one.

1626: There's been another goal in the First Division by the way, Falkirk are 1-0 up at home to Stirling Albion thanks to Marc Twaddle.

1622: Aberdeen defender Zander Diamond gets a vital touch on a Marcus Haber header to send the ball over for a corner. Nothing comes of the resultant delivery but the game is getting stretched and is certainly livelier.

1620: Jody Morris doesn't appear to be too popular with the Aberdeen players and Andrew Considine is booked for scything the Saints captain down. It's getting a bit tasty out there.

1618: Paul Hartley is booked after a clash of heads of with Murray Davidson. The Scotland midfielder was maybe a little late in jumping but the caution seems harsh and it led to a scuffle inside the centre circle, with Jody Morris also going in the book. What a waste of time.

1613: Aberdeen fans are calling for a penalty as Chris Maguire tumbles but the slightest of contact came outside the area and ref Steve McLean is not interested anyway...

1611: A complaint by text on 80295 from The Hibby Pirate to Sportsound reads: "Following on from your discussion about goalposts, is there any chance you could start one of your famous campaigns? Get commentators to stop saying 'hit the woodwork'. It must be at least 25 years since posts were made of wood. Thanks."

1608: Another long throw-in from Danny Grainger causes havoc in the Aberdeen penalty area, with Murray Davidson heading over the crossbar.

1605: The Dons fans have travelled to Perth in impressive numbers and are taking up most of both stands behind the goals. Good show.

1601: We're off again at McDiarmid Park. Let's hope for a few more thrills in front of goal.

My Sport
From pittodrieloon On My Sport: "Not a scooby why that goal was disallowed. Just more evidence of the over protection keepers get."
There was certainly no contact on Peter Enckleman and I couldn't see any more foul play than you normally get when players joust for the ball from a set-piece.

Half time
1547: Half time: St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen
There has not been much to talk about in a drab half, with both sides too ready with the long, hopeful ball forward. Kevin Rutkiewicz missed a sitter from close range and Mark Howard made a great save to keep out a Marcus Haber save. Aberdeen had the ball in the net but the whistle had sounded before Andrew Considine knocked it in.

1546: In first half stoppage time Mark Howard makes a splendid save at full-stretch to keep out a header from St Johnstone striker Marcus Haber after the Canadian had out-jumped the Dons defence to meet a long throw from Danny Grainger.

1541: I mentioned earlier that I would give the First Division a mention. Well, there's only been one goal and that was for Morton against Partick Thistle at Cappielow. Stewart Kean tucked it away on 18 minutes.

1535: Aberdeen have the ball in the net but it's not going to count. Paul Hartley's free kick goes in via Andrew Considine but the whistle had sounded very early from Steven McLean. Not sure why, I'm afraid.

1533: Aberdeen get their first glimpse of goal when Chris Maguire drifts into the penalty area and gets a shot away only to see it trundle into the arms of Peter Enckleman.

1531: Saints' Cleveland Taylor, who sounds like he should be boxing for the middleweight title of the world or playing second base for the Baltimore Orioles, cuts in from the wing and lets fly with a shot that soars high into the stand behind Mark Howard's goal.

1526: You can add Neil Lennon to the list of coaches looking on in Perth. There hasn't been much to concern the Celtic boss, or anyone else for that matter, so far...

1521: Perhaps I should explain that Rutkiewicz has recently released an album of his acoustic offerings...

1517: The first real chance of the game falls to Kevin Rutkiewicz and what a chance it was for the guitar-strumming St Johnstone man. Following a period of concerted pressure from the home side, the ball breaks to the defender a few yards from goal but his shot is sliced horribly wide.

1514: Diamond then pops up at the other end of the park to get his head to a corner kick but his effort flies high over the crossbar.

1512: Aberdeen defender Zander Diamond makes a splendid block to deny Sam Parkin a clean hit at goal from seven yards, following good work down the left flank from Marcus Haber.

1510: Ian B in Dundee has texted 80295 to call for a more robust type of football to be allowed. "The game is getting too girly, get it back to being a semi-contact sport. The powers that be are introducing far too many meaningless rules."

1505: It's been a rather scrappy opening at McDiarmid Park, where we have a number of opposition spies in the camp. John Hughes, Craig Brown, Paul Hegarty and Maurice Malpas are all taking notes in the stand.

1503: Airdrie United bag the first goal of the 1500 BST kick-offs. Scott Gemmill is the man on target at Livingston.

1500: Were off at McDiarmid Park. Since it's quiet, I'll try and keep you up to date with some of the goings on in the First Division as well.

My Sport
From AceOfHearts On My Sport: "I reckon it will be a tight game between Aberdeen and St Johnstone. They can do damage from their own ground including the 5-1 against Hibs last season but Aberdeen has been rejuvenated by the arrival of Hearts legend, Paul Hartley."

1453: "Absolutely delighted with the attitude and shape of Hearts today. Great for Kevin Kyle to get his first goal and young Elliot's confidence must be soaring. Hearts are back!" Matty from Dalkeith by text to 80295

1449: There's a terrifying mascot on the park at McDiarmid Park. The Saints have a caped crusader-type clapping and waving to the crowd but he looks like one of the blue meanies from Yellow Submarine. The Perth kids don't seem to mind though, since he's getting a few high fives.

My Sport
From VenomPD On My Sport: "Poor start to the season for Hamilton. Eight goals leaked and none scored. I wonder if they'll regret having to sell their promising youngsters?."

1437: TEAM NEWS:
St Johnstone: Enckelman, Maybury, Duberry, Rutkiewicz, Craig, Millar, Davidson, Morris, Taylor, Parkin, Haber. Subs: Smith, Grainger, Gartland, Dobie, Samuel, May, Caddis.
Aberdeen: Howard, McArdle, Diamond, Ifil, Considine, Maguire, Folly, Hartley, Pawlett, Aluko, Magennis. Subs: Langfield, Foster, Vernon, Mackie, Young, Fyvie, Megginson.

1430: No surprise to hear Aberdeen are unchanged after their win over Hamilton last weekend. St Johnstone make three alterations, with new signing Alan Maybury, Cleveland Taylor and Kevin Rutkiewicz coming in. Full team line-ups to follow.

1424: Hearts striker Calum Elliot says it was important to give Kevin Kyle a chance to score his first goal when asked why he didn't take the penalty he won against Hamilton. I'm not sure it would have been so easy to get the ball off him if he's already scored his second...

1416: While we're on the subject of the Gael-doch's favourite sport, I should mention that St Johnstone v Aberdeen can be seen 'as live' on BBC ALBA from 1730 BST.

1410: Good news for shinty lovers - The MacAuley Cup final is being screened live on BBC Two Scotland and you can see it streamed on the Scotland page of the BBC Sport website. Inveraray and Kingussie are the teams taking part but you don't need me to tell you that, do you?

1406: This might be of interest to Rangers fans: Chick Young has just told BBC Radio Scotland listeners that the champions have more money to spend on players, following the recent captures of Nikica Jelavic, Vladimir Weiss and James Beattie.

1403: In less than hour Aberdeen will have the chance to leapfrog Hearts at the top of the table when they take on St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

1358: It was a polished display from Hearts, with Calum Ellliot catching the eye with a tireless shift up front. The only sour note was the red card for Palazuelos. Hearts were recently hit with a record £60,000 fine for their consistently bad disciplinary record and manager Jim Jefferies has pledged to cut out the number of cautions picked up by his team.

My Sport
From Dave On My Sport: "Not watching the game but delighted to hear 3 goals coming from young Scots and one coming from a big ugly Scot. I've always liked Elliot, hoping he will push on this year and become the player he should be."

Full time
1350: Full-time: Hamilton 0-4 Hearts
A comfortable three points for the side from Edinburgh. A double from Calum Elliot, a sweet strike from David Templeton and a Kevin Kyle penalty doing the damage. Hamilton were all over the place and only threatened briefly for a period after the interval. The Accies could not take advantage of a red card for Ruben Palazuelos, with Martin Canning sent off to even up the numbers not long after.

1345: Calum Elliot is denied a hat-trick as Tomas Cerny tips the striker's angled, rising shot over the crossbar. The full-time whistle can't come soon enough for the home side.

1343: Hearts keeper Marian Kello is off his line sharply to make a smart save from Marco Paixao as the ball breaks kindly for the Hamilton striker six yards from goal.

1341: Hamilton are in disarray as Kevin Kyle sends a diving header wide of the mark from a teasing Lee Wallace cross.

1340: A text to 80295 from Woody in Ellon takes the gloss off the Dons' 4-0 win over Hamilton last week: "Aberdeen's win last week now in perspective".

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Accies' Kyle Wilkie gets caught in possession near the halfway line and Calum Elliot simply jogs up the park unchallenged before slotting a shot beyond Tomas Cerny. Kevin Kyle was screaming for the pass but he was never getting it.

1337: GOAL - Hamilton 0-4 Hearts (Elliot)

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
The ball is handed to Kevin Kyle and the big man slams in his first Hearts goal from the penalty spot - blasting his effort from 12 yards high into the net. Game over...

Red card
Calum Elliot bursts into the penalty area and tumbles as Martin Canning barges in with a last-gasp challenge. The defender is sent packing and a penalty is awarded. It's 10 v 10 now.

1331: GOAL - Hamilton 0-3 Hearts (Kyle)

1330: PENALTY TO HEARTS

1329: Hamilton replacement Gary McDonald slides in a close-range effort only to see Craig Thomson doing a solid blocking job on the post.

1327: Kyle connects with a long ball forward and loops a header wide of the target, with the nervous-looking Cerny stranded in no-man's land. We may see 10-man Hearts deploying a route one tactic from now on.

1323: Kevin Kyle replaces Suso Santana and the towering Hearts sub makes his presence felt immediately, forcing Martin Canning to head behind as Tomas Cerny flaps at a free-kick from Craig Thomson.

Red card
Palazuelos goes crashing into Flavio Paixao with his studs showing and picks up his second yellow card of the day. The first came for a late tackle on eight minutes. The Spaniard does that annoying laughing routine as he marches off. His manager certainly doesn't look like he sees the funny side of it. Can Hamilton take advantage and get back into this game?

1317: SENT OFF - Ruben Palazuelos (Hearts)

1310: Suso Santana blazes a shot high and wide from just eight yards as Hamilton make a real mess of defending a corner. That was a terrible miss from the Spanish midfielder!

1309: Dougie Imrie sends in another dangerous delivery from the left flank and the sliding Jim McAlister is inches away from connecting at the back post.

Someone has struck the woodwork
1305: Hamilton are certainly much-improved and a stooping header from Flavio Paixao crashes off the crossbar after he connected with a cross from Dougie Imrie.

1303: We get two penalty shouts inside the first few minutes after the re-start. One of the Paixao twins tumbles after a gentle nudge on the back and Lee Wallace goes down at the other end after a quick counter-attack. Not much substance to either claim...

1301: The home side appear, with Jim McAlister replacing BBC blogger Jack Ross, and we're underway for the second half.

1300: Hearts are out on the park but there's no sign of Hamilton. That ear-bashing from the manager must still be going on...

My Sport
From Wolvibhoy On My Sport: "Superb stuff from the Jambos. All this talk of Celtic and Rangers battling it out for the league is only half the story. The Old Firm should fear the men from the east."

1253: Hamilton have not put up much of a fight after their drubbing in Aberdeen last weekend. Hearts have been far livelier, working hard to press the ball and win it back. Accies boss Billy Reid will no doubt have a few harsh words for his men as they get tucked into the half-time oranges.

Half time
1246: Half-time: Hamilton 0-2 Hearts
A few jeers from the main stand tells us that the home fans are not asleep. It's been all Hearts in the first 45 minutes and the visitors have cashed in with wonderful strikes from Calum Elliot and David Templeton.

1241: More calamitous defending from Hamilton allows Calum Elliot to gather a long ball and get a shot away inside the penalty box but Martin Canning gets across to make the block.

1236: It really is quiet at New Douglas Park. Every shout from the players is being picked up on TV and radio and Hearts manager Jim Jefferies' verbal blast at Calum Elliot for not holding the ball up comes over crystal clear. Not one for the easily offended...

1233: Another corner comes to nothing for the home side as Hearts keeper Marian Kello plucks Flavio Paixao's delivery out of the air.

1230: Well, Hearts are 2-0 up and they have barely broken sweat. Hamilton look rudderless, while the Edinburgh side have been neat and tidy in possession.

1227: Craig Thomson picks up a yellow card for a rash challenge on Hamilton's Dougie Imrie on the touchline near the halfway point.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
What a strike from David Templeton! Accies keeper Tomas Cerny heads away a ridiculous looping back-pass from Simon Mensing and Martin Canning gifts possession to the visitors. The comic defending is punished when the Hearts midfielder cracks in a beauty from 25 yards.

1222: GOAL - Hamilton 0-2 Hearts (Templeton)

1220: Hamilton win a corner but the ball misses everyone in a congested penalty box and that rather sums up the efforts from the home team so far.

1219: "Hamilton have the Paixao brothers up front and Thomas looks like he could be a threat, but they need to get more service to them. They have this 3-4-3 system, but they have not had enough possession to supply them," says BBC Radio Scotland pundit Gordon Smith.

1216: Craig Thomson whips in a free kick and Ismael Bouzid gets in front of the home defence but the Hearts man's header flies well over the top.

My Sport
From Silver City Tim On My Sport: "Well taken goal by Calum Elliot. Now it just has to stay that way for 85 minutes for me to get all 3 points off the predictor."

1210: The early hour and that goal for Hearts have not done much to get the home crowd going. It's all gone very quiet at New Douglas Park.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
With their first attack the visitors take the lead in style. A neat passing exchange ends with Calum Elliot curling a sweet strike into the top corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

1205: GOAL - Hamilton 0-1 Hearts (Elliot)

1203: Ismael Bouzid takes a sore one as he is caught by the lunging Joel Thomas lunges while tidying up at the back. The Hamilton forward picks up the first yellow card of the game.

1200: And we're off...

1158: The teams are out and Hearts are wearing a natty sky blue change strip, with the home side in their traditional red and white hoops.

1155: Bouzid, back from suspension, replaces Jason Thomson for Hearts, while Hamilton make two changes - Joel Thomas, recently returned to the club for a third spell, and Brian McQueen are drafted in for David Buchanan and Gary McDonald.

1150: TEAM NEWS:
Hamilton: Cerny, Ross, McQueen, Skelton, Canning, Marco Paixao, Mensing, Wilkie, Flavio Paixao, Thomas, Imrie. Subs: Murdoch, Graham, McDonald, McAlister, Lyle, Kirkpatrick, Routledge.
Hearts: Kello, Barr, Zaliukas, Bouzid, Wallace, Craig Thomson, Palazuelos, Black, Templeton, Santana, Elliot. Subs: Balogh, Kyle, Ryan McGowan, Novikovas, Jason Thomson, Robinson, Mrowiec.

1147: Oh, and just for good measure, the Hearts masseur was also shown a red card for the fisty-cuffs in Lanarkshire last time. Was he oiled up and wading in with his surgical gloves on?

1144: It all kicked off the last time the Jambos were at New Douglas Park. Ismael Bouzid and Michael Stewart were sent off during the game, while Ian Black and Suso Santana joined Hamilton's unused sub Leon Knight in receiving red cards for their parts in a post-match scuffle in the tunnel.

My Sport
From Jimmy Jazz On My Sport: "Only one game at 3pm on Saturday. It's just wrong."

1138: The Perth Saints host Aberdeen at 1500 BST, with the visitors sure to bring a large and noisy support to the Fair City, buoyed by their high-flying start to the season.

1134: The Accies will be smarting from last weekend's 4-0 gubbing at Pittodrie, while Hearts opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to St Johnstone.

1130: Welcome to our Scottish Premier League coverage on this truncated Saturday card. There are only two matches in the top flight today, beginning with the noon kick-off at New Douglas Park, where Hamilton host Hearts.
