BBC Scotland has learned that Celtic are interested in signing the Everton defender Joseph Yobo on a season-long loan deal.
The Nigerian centre back, 29, has been at Goodison Park since 2002.
The Glasgow club have been made aware that the player could become available but wages may be the stumbling block.
Meanwhile, Celtic are also still interested in signing Republic of Ireland keeper Shay Given on loan but the deal is looking unlikely.
Everton manager David Moyes would not comment on the possibility of Yobo leaving but claimed there have been no overtures from his former club
"There has been no contact from Celtic directly to me," he said. "If there is anything out there I have not heard it directly."
