St Mirren claimed a point to all but seal their Scottish Premier League safety as opponents Falkirk remained bottom of the table.
The visitors conceded a penalty after an off-the-ball clash between Chris Innes and Falkirk's Brian McLean that saw the St Mirren man sent off.
Scott Arfield converted just before the interval to put the Bairns ahead.
But Stephen O'Donnell headed home with four minutes left to keep Saints four points clear of the drop zone.
Falkirk's point took them level with Kilmarnock, who lost to St Johnstone, but the Ayrshire side have a superior goal difference.
With two rounds of fixtures remaining, both Falkirk and Kilmarnock can at best only draw level on points with St Mirren, who have a much better goal difference than either side.
Dorman rose to meet Graham Carey's cross, but the midfielder could only direct his header wide as the Bairns escaped an early St Mirren advance.
And the same combination minutes later resulted in the similar outcome as Dorman again nodded beyond the post.

Pedro Moutinho posed problems for the St Mirren defence and, after volleying over earlier in the match, the forward was off-target with a long-range free-kick.
Carey, having built a reputation this season as a set-piece specialist, managed to hit the target with a 35-yard free-kick, but the ball bounced into the arms of Falkirk goalkeeper Robert Olejnik.
The first half was drawing to a close when referee Willie Collum spotted an altercation between Innes and McLean, which occurred in the aftermath of Saints goalkeeper Paul Gallacher saving a header from Ryan Flynn.
Innes was dismissed for violent conduct before Arfield was given the chance to score from the spot and the midfielder made no mistake from 12 yards as he sent the keeper the wrong way.
St Mirren pushed at the start of the second, but Falkirk were a threat on the counter-attack and, in one breakaway, Mark Stewart went through on goal only to see his effort well saved by Gallacher.
Former Bairns player Michael Higdon came off the bench to replace Steven Robb and fired over from Carey's corner midway through the second half.
Billy Mehmet then dragged a shot wide from inside the penalty area.
At the other end, Moutinho's corner worked its way to Darren Barr and the Falkirk captain's shot was cleared off the line by opposing skipper John Potter.
Craig Dargo came off the bench to boost St Mirren's attack and the striker had a shot saved by Olejnik in the lead-up to the equaliser.
The ball was delivered back into the area by Dorman and flicked on at the near post by Dargo for O'Donnell to rise and nod the ball over the line.
