By Thomas McGuigan

2200: So, goal-hungry Dundee United strengthen their grip on third place and move five points clear of Hibs with an impressive 4-2 win at Easter Road. Thanks again for your company this evening, we're back on Saturday. Hope you can join us then, cheers!

My Sport
From dentannbaith on My Sport " I don't want this game to end", looking for a 135 minute game Mr. McGuigan, then score would be 3-6. Bye bye Hibs, hello Celtic." That was one of the most entertaining SPL games I've seen in a long time!

2151: "I'm very proud of them again, because Hibs are a very attacking side. We were clinical tonight and the spirit among the players is fantastic. We haven't won anything yet but have amassed more points than last season. A five-point gap isn't that much and Hibs could still catch us." Dundee United manager Peter Houston

2150: "The boys have been brilliant for me this season and I need to pick them up again. The fans will probably say 'oh, here he goes again'. Goals change games, we could've closed Danny Swanson down a bit quicker. All credit to United for the way they came back into it. I was looking for a better performance than that. We should be up in third, fourth spot every year." Hibs manager John Hughes

2141: "Dundee United have all sorts of options in attack, are sound defensively and deserved their victory." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Craig Paterson

Full time
2138: FULL-TIME HIBERNIAN 2-4 DUNDEE UNITED

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
I don't want this game to end! Anthony Stokes reduces the deficit with a cool finish after springing the United offside trap, following a clever dink from Derek Riordan.

2136: GOAL! HIBERNIAN 2-4 DUNDEE UNITED (ANTHONY STOKES)

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
The Hibs fans are streaming for the exits after seeing their defence ripped to shreds by a rampant United for the fourth time tonight. David Goodwillie races away like a hare down the right and plays in substitute Francisco Sandaza , who gathers after a heavy first touch before sliding the ball under the advancing Graham Stack and into the net. "Are you Dundee in disguise?" sing the away fans. Ouch!

2132: GOAL! HIBERNIAN 1-4 DUNDEE UNITED 4 (FRANCISCO SANDAZA)

2130: Four minutes remaining at Easter Road and the United fans are in full voice. A sheepish-looking Hibs boss John Hughes blows his cheeks in frustration.

2129: "It's been a very impressive display from Dundee United. Once they scored the third goal they've rarely looked in trouble. Defensively sound and dangerous going forward." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Jim Duffy

2127:
My Sport
From Hugh Main on My Sport "The Tangerines look like cementing third spot in the SPL now and deservedly so after some great performances. Hibs' luck has run out and it looks like a straight fight between them and the Steelmen for fourth spot - that's too close to call. Well done Houstie!"

2125: Dundee United goalkeeper Dusan Pernis claws a John Rankin corner kick away from underneath his own bar.

2124: Hibs midfielder Liam Miller tries to wriggle free on the right hand side but his cross trundles out for a goal-kick. We've got 11 minutes remaining and United are looking good to stretch their lead over Hibs to five points in the race for third place.

2122: Ian Murray finds Hibs substitute with a long crossfield pass, but the striker lacks the composure of Danny Swanson as he blazes his shot high, wide and not very handsome.

2120:
My Sport
From scotbot on My Sport "Is it too early to say, "Tony Mowbray for Easter Road? Ahem."

Yellow card
2117: Hibernian midfielder Patrick Cregg goes into the book for a crude tackle on Craig Conway. Benji comes on for Hibs striker Colin Nish as the hosts search for a cutting edge in front of goal.

2115: United's midfield are cleverly trying to take the sting out of the game as we enter the final 20 minutes. Stokes has looked lively since coming on but the hosts need to find their shooting boots quickly.

2113: Anthony Stokes sends in a brilliant low cross towards Colin Nish, but the alert Andy Webster smacks it clear for a corner. Nish, who's had a luckless night in front of goal, heads over from the corner.

2110: Craig Conway sends in a free-kick which Hibs keeper Graham Stack elects to punch clear, much to the chagrin of the frazzled home fans. Hibs need a flicker of genius to get back into this game.

2108: Goodwillie's goal has floored everyone in green & white inside Easter Road. Hibs will be rueing that Nish/Riordan miss earlier in the second half. The hosts have got about 25 minutes to launch the mother of all comebacks...

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
United are absolutely flying now: David Goodwillie picks up possession on the right and makes a spearing run towards the box. Sol Bamba stands between him and Graham Stack's goal, but the striker feints before sending a crisp low shot with his right foot into the bottom corner. The visitors are turning the screw here.

2104: GOAL! HIBERNIAN 1-3 (DAVID GOODWILLIE)

2102: Anthony Stokes is going to come on for Hibs, Lewis Stevenson is the man likely to make way. And a quick Champions League update for you: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored his and Barcelona's second goal to go 2-0 up against Arsenal at the Emirates.

2101: BBC Radio Scotland pundit Jim Duffy has just told Sportsound listeners that he's surprised Derek Riordan opted for power when he followed up Nish's shot rather than placing it.

2059: Remember, there'll be highlights of tonight's game at Easter Road on our website from midnight: and they're worth watching.

2058: Jon Daly sees his sclaffed shot come back off the post from Danny Swanson's wicked corner. United come agonisingly close to extending their lead.

2056: Hibs come alive Ian Murray is closed down by well by Danny Swanson, but the ball breaks to Colin Nish. The big striker sees his shot cannon back off the foot of the post and Derek Riordan's follow up is blocked by Sean Dillon. That looked a certain equaliser!

2055: Sean Dillon tries to find Dundee United striker David Goodwillie with a long pass but Hibs deal with the danger.

2051: What, no early goal? I guess we were spoiled in the first half.

2049: And the second half is under way.

2047: "There's no doubt that United are showing incredible spirit at the moment - that's what saw off Rangers and Motherwell - plus they seem to be getting that little bit of luck too at the right moment, like the incident with Nish and also Buaben's goal on Saturday. Come on United!" So says Paul by text to 80295.

2043: No word of any substitutions being made by either side. I'll let you know as soon as I hear of any changes.

2041: In terms of the remainder of Hibs' season, this next 45 minutes are hugely important.

2039: Big John Hughes will be releasing a lot of pent-up frustration in that changing room, having been stuck in the main stand.

2037: Jason in Hartlepool has texted 80295. He's a worried man. "Even though we're leading, I don't feel confident and can see Hibs drawing level after the break. We need a third goal."

2035:
My Sport
From JimmyGomis on My Sport "I think this game has another goal in it. If it's for United I think it will be game over and hopefully the race for 3rd place over - look what's happened to our neighbours across the road at Dens, though!"

2034: Hibs supporters boo their side, and referee Stevie O'Reilly, as they make their way down the tunnel for a welcome heat and a cup of tea. A thoroughly entertaining 45 minutes at Easter Road, more of the same in the second half, please.

Half time
2033: HALF-TIME HIBERNIAN 1-2 DUNDEE UNITED

2030: Hibs striker Colin Nish, oh dear! The big hitman takes the ball into the penalty area, rounds United keeper Dusan Pernis but tries to centre the ball rather than having a shot from a tight angle. Howls from the home fans fill the dark Edinburgh sky.

2028:
My Sport
From ArabBiskit on My Sport "Put your hands up... put your hands up for John Daly... he loves the shimmy... Danny Swanson !!! Goal, Goal, Goal !!!" I'm clicking my fingers and trying to sing this in the office, not sure if I'm getting the tune right!

2026: Hibs have about six minutes to restore parity before the break but United are looking fairly comfortable in the face of sporadic green and white attacks.

2023: Dundee United defender Garry Kenneth embarks on a thunderous run but he miss-controls and the chance evaporates. The towering stopper gives a team-mate a bit of mouthful as he gallops back into United territory; he's not a man you'd want to upset...

2022: Hibs engineer a good opening after a lovely passing move on the right but it's cut to an abrupt halt after John Rankin is correctly flagged offside after Liam Miller tried to play the midfielder in on goal.

2020: "Another wonder goal from Danny Swanson by the sound of it. Amazing to think he was playing for Berwick a couple of years ago." Stuart in Perth by text to 80295 Wait until you see the highlights Stuart, it's an absolute corker!

2019: Danny Swanson's beautiful strike was his fifth league goal of the season and it might just put United on the road to securing third spot in the SPL this season. Before tonight's game, Peter Houston's men were two points ahead of Hibs.

2018: "Get in there, come on United! Watch Hibs wilt now!" Grant in Edinburgh by text to 80295

Yellow card
2016: Dundee United midfielder Morgaro Gomis is the first player to go into referee Stevie O'Reilly's book. He kicked the ball away after being pulled up for a foul on Patrick Cregg.

2015: "It's amazing how quickly a game can turn; it happened with the penalty and now United are in the ascendancy." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Jim Duffy

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Well, that just might be one of the best goals I've seen this season. Craig Conway's corner breaks to Danny Swanson wide on the right and he feathers a superb shot into the top corner, leaving Graham Stack helpless. What a goal and United lead after losing that early goal.

2012: GOAL! HIBERNIAN 1-2 DUNDEE UTD (DANNY SWANSON)

2009: Hibs captain Chris Hogg goes some way to atoning for his penalty howler, as he covers for team-mate Sol Bamba to halt a thrusting run by David Goodwillie. United are on top and the home fans are becoming restless. Hibs boss John Hughes is chewing gum 10 to the dozen in the stand...

2008: "Both teams are going for it. Hibs went into their shell a wee bit after scoring but it's a cracking game and I don't think it's the end of the scoring." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Craig Paterson

2007: We can hear the small knot of Dundee United fans for the first time at Easter Road tonight and, suddenly, the visitors have the upper hand.

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Despite howls of protest from the Hibs fans, Chris Hogg is adjudged to have fouled Jon Daly in the box and referee Stevie O'Reilly points to the spot. Daly dusts himself down and fires home the equaliser.

2004: PENALTY to Dundee United.

2003: "It's essentially a 4-4-2 formation for Hibernian tonight, with Derek Riordan having licence to get forward" BBC Radio Scotland commentator Richard Gordon

2002: The camera's just panned to Yogi in the stand, and he's dressed in black with a nifty earpiece, not dissimilar to something Jason Bourne would wear as he plots his next move...

2000: Hibs assistant manager Brian Rice is told to "cool the beans" by referee Stevie O'Reilly. Rice is alone in the dugout as Yogi Hughes sits in the stand, serving a touchline ban.

1958: United midfielder Craig Conway has been unusually off-target with his crossing in the opening 12 minutes, but the visitors are warming to the task now. It's a good open game so far!

1956: Hibs defender Chris Hogg shows a cool head to mop up the danger as he thwarts United striker Jon Daly, just as the Irishman was preparing to pull the trigger.

1955: United try to shake themselves into life and Craig Conway's clever run and cross is blocked by Liam Miller for a corner. Conway's delivery is poor and Hibs repel the danger.

1953: The hosts search for a second goal and Derek Riordan's shot fizzes off of team-mate John Rankin before heading out for a goal kick. United keeper Dusan Pernis gives a rueful shake of the head.

1952: Hibs have come haring out the traps and have United pinned into their half in an explosive opening six minutes. John Hughes has got his troops fired up for this one and the visitors are rocking.

1950:
My Sport
From MACKER100 on My Sport "It's the big one for Hibs tonight. We need the 3 points to go into 3rd place. Especially as we entertain Celtic on sunday with Dundee Utd playing St Johnstone on Monday. To lose tonight and on Sunday would end any chance of us finishing in 3rd."

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal
Who needs Anthony Stokes when you've got the predatory Patrick Cregg? The midfielder's low drive takes a wicked deflection of United defender Garry Kenneth and finds the net. That goal coming after 37 seconds, first blood to Hibs...

1947: GOAL! HIBERNIAN 1-0 DUNDEE UNITED (PATRICK CREGG)

1946: Hibs get the first half under way.

1944: Both sides are out on the Easter Road pitch and getting ready for kick-off. Looks like a cold night in the Scottish capital.

1943:
My Sport
From H185GAR2 on My Sport "Top scorer on the bench in our most important game of the season? What you trying to do to us Yogi?! Hopefully, come half nine I'm eating my hat!"

1941: United welcome back Morgaro Gomis from injury and recall striker Jon Daly, who was a second half sub in Saturday's 3-0 triumph over Motherwell. Andis Shala dropped to the bench while Paul Dixon is suspended after seeing red at Tannadice.

1939: Hibernian's top goalscorer Anthony Stokes is on the bench for the visit of Dundee United. Merouane Zemmama is sidelined through injury, with midfielders Lewis Stevenson and Patrick Cregg coming in following the 3-1 victory over Falkirk.

1933: I'll be honest, this game is causing me a bit of a headache in the BBC Predictor . The last time these sides met at Easter Road last October, it ended 1-1 with Andy Webster cancelling out Merouane Zemmama's early strike.

1930: Team news from Easter Road
Hibernian: Stack, Murray, Hogg, Bamba, Stevenson, Thicot, Rankin, Miller, Cregg, Nish, Riordan. Subs: Smith, McCormack, Stokes, Benjelloun, Galbraith, Byrne, Taggart.
Dundee Utd: Pernis, Dillon, Webster, Buaben, Conway, Watson, Kenneth, Gomis, Swanson, Goodwillie, Daly. Subs: Banks, Dods, Sandaza, Shala, Kevin Smith, McCord, Mihadjuks.

1925: Good evening and a warm welcome for our coverage of Hibernian's encounter with Dundee United as the race for third spot in the Scottish Premier League reaches the home straight.
