Former Scottish Premier League chief executive Roger Mitchell says he recommended a 20-team top flight for Scotland when clubs broke away from the Scottish Football League in 1998.

Mitchell claims that deciding against his suggestion in favour of a 10-team SPL, which eventually expanded to 12, has taken the Scottish game into decline. (The Herald)
