Topping to be named as SPL chair

Scottish Premier League chairman Lex Gold is to retire

The Scottish Premier League is to name Ralph Topping as their new executive chairman when Lex Gold retires from the position in the next few weeks.

Topping, who is chief executive at William Hill and has been with the bookmakers since 1973, will replace the retiring Gold, aged 68.

The Glasgow-born Topping's appointment is expected to be ratified by clubs in the next six to eight weeks.

Neil Doncaster also came in as new SPL chief executive this season.
