Chairman Lex Gold declared himself satisfied with the first meeting of a new SPL working group.
Old Firm managers Walter Smith and Gordon Strachan were joined by Mark McGhee, Craig Levein, John Hughes and Jimmy Calderwood at Hampden.
"The aim is to look at issues that can drive the game forward and the contributions from round the table were first class," Gold told BBC Sport.
"Much has been achieved in the past 10 years but we must seek to improve."
Gold would not divulge any of the topics under discussion before he reports to the SPL board and the 12 member clubs.
However, he did say there would be another meeting in January and that some of the issues raised "will emerge in the not too distant future".
"The atmosphere was excellent, very co-operative, and it was a pleasure to be part of it," he added.
"We will be taking action on some of the issues raised once we have agreed on the broad direction of travel.
"When we plan for the future it is crucial that we draw upon the wealth of knowledge and experience in our game.
"As an organisation we are constantly examining what we do and we seek new ideas and fresh approaches."
