Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson is set to leave the club in January. Manager Gordon Strachan admitted that the 32-year-old is likely to move in order to obtain first team football after not featuring this season.
He told the Sunday Mail: "Alan would like to move on, there's no doubt about that and it's not a problem for me.
"Ideally I wouldn't want to lose him - it's not an issue having him at the club, but we have plenty of players in his position."
The Newcastle born player - capped once for England - has seen his profile diminish gradually as Celtic have relied on Shaun Maloney, Jiri Jarosik and Aiden McGeady.
Added Strachan: "Alan does need football at this stage and unfortunately we can't give him that because others are doing so well."
Thompson cost previous Hoops boss Martin O'Neill 2.75m in September 2000, but is one of the few remaining players from the side which reached the Uefa Cup final in 2003.
