Nacho Novo sports his new colours

Novo has signed a four-year deal and becomes McLeish's sixth summer signing.

But the Rangers boss admitted on Tuesday that he was still hoping to add one or two more players to his squad.

"I don't think this will be my last signing. I'm looking for competition for places throughout the team," McLeish said.

Dado Prso, Jean-Alain Boumsong, Marvin Andrews and Alex Rae have already been brought in over the close season, with Serbia and Montenegro international Dragan Mladenovic to follow from Red Star Belgrade subject to a work permit being secured.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Stewart is on trial at the club and could be added to the squad, but McLeish was delighted to complete the signing of Novo.

"He has got great pace and in this game pace always frightens defenders," he said.

"Nacho has scored a lot of goals since coming to Scotland, first with Raith Rovers and then Dundee."

Novo admitted he was flattered to have been the subject of interest from both sides of the Old Firm.

"It is great that two big clubs wanted me. Celtic are a big club but I preferred to come here," he said.

"This is a big club - one of the biggest in Europe.

"I will work hard, try to help the team and try to win everything. It is a great team, a great squad and a great club. I will do everything I can to help them.

"I had two great years in Dundee but when you are a footballer you want to play at that top level and I now have that opportunity.
