Gary Bollan has only played twice this season for United |
Defender Gary Bollan has been released from his contract with Dundee United and joined Motherwell. United confirmed on Tuesday that the 30-year-old's contract had been ended by mutual consent.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Partick Thistle and Queen of the South had been linked with a move for Bollan.
But the former Livingston, St Johnstone and Rangers full-back decided on Fir Park last week but was not considered match fit to play on Saturday.
Bollan has not playing for the Tannadice outfit's first-team since August.
He has made just two appearances this season in his second spell with his hometown club.
Motherwell last week reluctantly agreed to sell Stephen Pearson to Celtic for 350,000, which has given the club still in administration some leeway in entering the transfer market themselves.
Bollan is also left-sided and his arrival will further fuel speculation that left-back Steven Hammell is to leave Fir Park.
The former Scotland Under-21 defender is out of contract in the summer and has not yet agreed a new contract with Motherwell.
He has been linked with a move to Wigan Athletic, but United might even be interested in a player-plus-cash deal.
