McCurry denied Motherwell a penalty at the weekend |
Referee Mike McCurry will take charge of his first Old Firm match after refusing to bow to what is claimed were angry fans who attacked his house. McCurry was allegedly targeted by some Celtic fans who somehow blamed him for the jaw break suffered by Henrik Larsson during an accidental clash with Livingston's Gus Bahoken in February.
But the 38-year-old official told the Daily Mail: "At the end of the day, you cannot let a couple of mindless idoits dictate how you want to live your own life.
"You wouldn't be human if you didn't think whether it was worth carrying on as a referee after something like that.
I look forward to Saturday with a keen anticipation |
"But, at the end of the day, I am a referee and I will walk away from that on my own terms. "I happen to think I willl have a few years in me yet.
"Referees from the Premiership, or anywhere else in the world, would love to take charge of an Old Firm fixture, given their importance and profile.
"I am thrilled to be given my first one."
McCurry was at the centre of more controversy on Saturday, when he appeared to deny Motherwell a stonewall penalty during their defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle.
Referees were under the spotlight over the weekend as John Rowbotham failed to discipline Rangers' Mikel Arteta for an off-the-ball kick at Livingston's Philippe Brinquin and then appeared to deny the Ibrox club a penalty.
But McCurry added: "The good days far outweigh the bad and this season I've handled a Barcelona game in the Nou Camp, which was fantastic.
"I've had lots of experience both at home and abroad, so I look forward to Saturday with a keen anticipation."
