Pat Clarke was on target as Dunfermline claimed a opening-day victory over Falkirk despite a penalty miss.

Clarke nodded home Joe Cardle's cross in the 16th minute to seal the points.

Pars keeper Chris Smith tipped Mark Millar's 20-yard shot over the bar, and from the corner Thomas Scobbie headed over from six yards.

Cardle was fouled by Jason Marr, but Robert Olejnik parried away Andy Kirk's spot-kick and Brian McLean came close to equalising with a late header.


Falkirk: Olejnik, Marr (Duffie 46), McLean, Khalis (Deuchar 61), Scobbie, Flynn, O'Brien, Millar, Compton (Finnigan 46), Higginbotham, Stewart. Subs Not Used: Barclay, Bloom.
